200 years
of history

In 1822, the island now known as Key West was purchased due to its strategic location at the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico and its proximity to trade routes connecting major local ports. As the industry expanded so did the need for a building to house the growing federal presence on the island.

The Custom House Inn, formerly known as the Key West Custom House was built in 1833 and housed trade operations for the developing island. As the customs trade grew, the city recognized the importance it had on Key West's economy, and a larger building was planned to accommodate the need for more space. With the planning underway, the city acknowledged the significance of the original Custom House building and its place in history. While the new structure replaced the first Custom House in 1891, the old building was moved to its current home and one of Key West's most iconic locations, Duval Street.

Now a boutique hotel, the Custom House Inn is centered around art, history, and a lot of fun!
